Welcome,
It is with great pleasure that the HMRG European HIV Seminars Organising Committee announces their upcoming second annual meeting focused this year on ‘How to Manage the Epidemic’.
Management of HIV infection is in transition. Despite great strides being made in recent years with widespread availability of antiretroviral therapy and the application of successful, if limited, PrEP programmes, there remains a sustained global HIV epidemic, with some patients experiencing excess non-AIDS co-morbidities, while the goal of HIV cure remains elusive. Although perhaps at opposite ends of the spectrum, these two issues, co-morbidities and cure, are at the core of much current research into HIV, and significant progress is needed in order to meet UNAIDS targets to control, and eventually eliminate the HIV epidemic.
This meeting will bring together a distinguished panel of both international and local speakers to discuss important issues relevant to controlling the HIV epidemic and discuss the major obstacles to, and the necessary steps needed to achieve this goal, as well as future directions in HIV research required in order to both optimise HIV care and work eventually towards HIV cure.
The meeting, run over two days, is aimed at those involved in care of people living with HIV and comprises plenary sessions aimed at creating a relaxed, informal, yet stimulating atmosphere which will foster excellent discussion. The meeting will provide those involved in HIV care an opportunity to update and broaden their knowledge into contemporary issues in HIV and ultimately offer potential networking opportunities.
The meeting venue is the historic Mater Misericordiae University Hospital campus close to the many enjoyable sites of Dublin, a delightful city to visit in early Summer.
We look forward to welcoming you to Dublin and hope you enjoy all the meeting has to offer.
